WELCOME REMARKS
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE WORLD LP GAS ASSOCIATION

I am delighted to invite you to our 20th Annual World LP Gas Forum. For only the second time in its history, the Forum will travel to Africa, where we have selected the city of Cape Town to host our event. Considered by many to be the “gateway to Africa”, Cape Town offers a fantastic mix of diverse cultures, breathtaking natural beauty and an energetic business environment. The venue for our conference and exhibition is the Cape Town International Centre and ArabellaSheraton Grand Hotel, offering our delegates world class facilities having a high degree of luxury and elegance.

The theme of this year’s Forum is “LP Gas Fuelling Life”. We have chosen the theme in recognition of the fact that not only is LP Gas a “fuel”, but one which “fuels” both the comfort of individuals and the productivity of businesses. This year’s agenda offers an exciting programme, addressing the most relevant issues facing the LP Gas industry in the world today.

In addition to our regular two day conference, we are also offering an additional symposium dedicated to the subject of “LP Gas for African Development”. At this meeting, we intend to explore the advantages that LP Gas has to offer to consumers in Africa, as well as discuss how we can increase LP Gas consumption in this growing continent. We welcome the support of two major international organisations to this discussion – the World Bank and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). We also expect representatives of African governments and institutions to participate.

As always, our World Forum includes a unique exhibition where the foremost LP Gas companies from around the world showcase their latest products and services. The exhibition is held adjacent to the conference room, and delegates will be able to complement their conference debates with practical business discussions among leading suppliers.

The World LP Gas Forum is renowned for its networking opportunities and social events. The 20th Forum will be no exception with our Members Dinner being held at the world famous Castle of Good Hope and our Annual Gala Dinner taking a strongly African feel at the superb Moyo at Spier in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands.

We are especially grateful to the LP Gas Safety Association of Southern African and other members of the National Organising Committee for their efforts in support of the Forum. We also want to recognize the contribution of the numerous sponsors of the event from across the globe who have enabled us to offer this high quality Forum in Cape Town.

Finally, and importantly, an association is only as powerful as the members it represents. I encourage you to get actively involved in shaping the future of our industry. There is no better way to do so than coming to Cape Town and interacting with other members of the World LP Gas Association. With close to 160 members from leading companies in the LP Gas business across 50 countries, the WLPGA is recognised as the voice of the LP Gas industry. Visit our booth, talk with our staff and discover for yourself the benefits of membership.

With all that it has to offer, I’m sure you’ll agree that this World LP Gas Forum is an event that must not be missed. I look forward to seeing you in October.
