WORLD LP GAS ASSOCIATION

Established in 1987 and granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 1989, the World LP Gas Association (WLPGA) unites the broad interests of the worldwide LP Gas industry into one independent organisation. To accomplish its objectives, the WLPGA develops partnerships with international organisations and implements projects on local and global scales. Representing all sectors of the LP Gas industry, the WLPGA brings together private and public companies involved in one, several or all activities of the industry.

MISSION STATEMENT

As the authoritative, global voice for LP Gas, the WLPGA promotes the use of LP Gas worldwide to foster a cleaner, healthier and more prosperous world.

The WLPGA’s mission is to:

  • Enhance awareness and image of LP Gas as a clean, all-purpose and efficient source of energy
  • Identify and support LP Gas market development opportunities and innovation
  • Promote good business practices and support improvements of, and compliance with, technical and safety standards
  • Represent the LP Gas industry in formulation of policies
  • Facilitate information exchange and communication among all LP Gas stakeholders

At the initiative of major LP Gas groups, an Industry Council was created and inaugurated into the framework of the WLPGA in 1996. The Industry Council provides a platform for international LP Gas organisations to identify and address global issues, develop strategies, formulate projects and make recommendations to the Board of Directors. Whether focused on specific market segments or the LP Gas industry in general, the Industry Council’s actions are designed to increase the worldwide use of LP Gas.

Further supporting the mission of the WLPGA, the Industry Council and Board created two networks focused on segments of the industry. The Global Autogas Industry Network (GAIN) and the Global Technology Network (GLOTEC) are dedicated to expanding the market, increasing the awareness and promoting the use of LP Gas at the global level.

These networks forge and coordinate relationships with all industry stakeholders active in the LP Gas industry and associated sectors.

WLPGA PARTNERSHIPS

The WLPGA has established many lasting cooperative partnerships and working relationships with international, regional and local organisations.

Through these partnerships the WLPGA is able to influence policy makers, decision makers and opinion leaders worldwide. Recent joint studies have been carried out with, amongst others, the World Bank, the United Nations Environment programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Our relationship with the UNDP now includes a successful public private partnership – the LP Gas Rural Energy Challenge, launched in 2002. Through an alliance of LP Gas Marketers, local and international entities and host governments, the LP Gas Rural Energy Challenge is focussed on creating viable and sustainable markets for LP Gas delivery and consumption in selected developing countries in the world. In addition to our established partnerships, the WLPGA continues to forge new relationships as appropriate to further develop the global use of LP Gas.

WLPGA PROJECTS AND MEMBERS SERVICES

The WLPGA implements a variety of projects designed to educate, inform and influence various stakeholders in the global LP Gas business. The Global Autogas Industry Network (GAIN) and the Global Technology Network (GLOTEC) bring together members to focus on two specific areas of the LP Gas business. Both networks have active agendas in response to market trends and member requests and have produced a variety of valuable tools for member use.

The LP Gas Rural Energy Challenge Programme develops new business models and expands market opportunities for members around the world, whilst our work on good practices supports generally accepted good practices on the business and safety aspects of LP Gas.

The WLPGA internet site provides a valuable service to members - containing the latest information and news on LP Gas and the WLPGA as well as specific member services in the members-only areas. Other projects and services range from developing publications, coordinating economic and policy studies, publishing detailed statistics and newsletters, supporting research and development and participation in international conferences including outreach to other LP Gas Associations.

Multi-client studies for members can be administered by the WLPGA to support small groups of members on specific subjects.
