WORLD LP GAS FORUM
20 YEARS OF GROWING SUCCESS

Twenty years ago in Dublin, Ireland, a small group of LP Gas Industry leaders from around the world felt the need for an organisation that could promote LP Gas and, through an annual Forum, exchange information and best practices to help grow the LP Gas industry worldwide. With Stewart Kean of Utility Propane as the first President and Denis Shelly of Calor Teoranta as Acting Secretary-General, the World LPG Forum (later to become the World LP Gas Association, WLPGA) was created on June 19th 1987.

During the subsequent twenty years, our annual conference & exhibition - the World LP Gas Forum, traveled six times around the world, taking place in nineteen different venues on six continents. In this time we have seen LP Gas consumption grow globally by 70% from 127 million tonnes to 215 million tonnes, however the global growth figures belie the staggering growth in specific regions. For instance African LP Gas consumption has doubled in this time, Middle Eastern consumption has increased by 600% and Chinese growth has been close to 2000%. During this period of growth, the WLPGA has been a forum for leadership in the sector, promoting the safe use of LP Gas, sharing good practices and innovation, representing the industry with policy makers and thus contributing enormously to the industry’s tremendous accomplishments. The networking from the World LP Gas Forum has led not only to great business but also to long-lasting friendships to which many of our regular delegates can testify.

Great thanks are due to all those who have made the last twenty years such a success. This includes, amongst others, our Forum conference attendees, exhibitors, co-hosting organisations, sponsors, media partners, our seven former and the current President, WLPGA Members, Managing Directors and staff. With your continued support we shall continue to help grow our industry for another twenty years and beyond.
